Greeting

Dear Esteemed Members
of the Korean Society for the Learning Sciences,

  • Greetings. I am Young-Hoan Cho from Seoul National University, and I am honored to serve as the inaugural President of the Korean Society for the Learning Sciences (KSLS).
  • The Korean Society for the Learning Sciences was officially launched in 2026 to address the complex challenges facing education in the era of Artificial Intelligence, grounded in an interdisciplinary understanding of learning. There is a growing consensus that we must transcend the limitations of uniform, standardized education to foster the holistic growth of every learner. To drive this transformation, it is essential to establish an academic community where researchers from diverse fields can communicate and collaborate.
  • Our society is dedicated to an interdisciplinary approach, placing human learning at the center while integrating expertise from education, psychology, neuroscience, computer science, and beyond. Through this synergy, we aim to establish theories that explain complex and dynamic learning phenomena from multiple perspectives and investigate them through rigorous scientific inquiry. We will strive to break down the barriers between fragmented disciplines to promote creative and systematic research on learning.
  • Learning is an activity deeply intertwined with human life, occurring through diverse experiences from birth to death. KSLS will develop effective, evidence-based practices to solve learning-related issues in schools, workplaces, and daily life, thereby facilitating meaningful learning experiences. We are particularly committed to improving educational practices so that the experience of failure can be transformed into a valuable asset for all learners.
  • Furthermore, the rapid advancement of AI technology is simultaneously expanding the scope of Learning Sciences and giving rise to new educational challenges. In collaboration with the global academic community, we will lead the development of human-centric AI and lead discussions on the co-evolution of humans and AI from a learning perspective. We also intend to collaborate with universities and industries nationwide to cultivate experts capable of designing learning and developing cutting-edge tools for the AI era.
  • The Korean Society for the Learning Sciences is now taking its first steps.
I sincerely hope that the Learning Sciences will serve as a catalyst for opening a new chapter in our education. As your first President, I will do my utmost to build a solid foundation for the society and provide a global research platform where scholars from various disciplines can thrive together.
  • I invite professors, researchers, educators, students, and industry professionals who share an interest in the Learning Sciences to join us in this journey.
  • Thank you.
  • April 2026

    Young-Hoan Cho

    President, KSLC
